A Lawrence Public Library card connects you to books, movies, eBooks, audiobooks, online learning, research tools, museum passes, and much more.

GETTING A CARD IS EASY

1. Apply. Complete the Library Card Application online or visit the Library for assistance.

2. Show identification. Bring a valid photo ID showing your current Lawrence address.​

  • For Kids (Grade 6 and under ): A parent or guardian must provide the required identification.

  • For Teens (Grades 7–12): Provide a photo ID with a current Lawrence address or proof of enrollment in a Lawrence school.

NO CURRENT ADDRESS ON YOUR ID?

That’s okay. Bring an additional document showing your current Lawrence address, such as a bill or other accepted proof of address.

Please talk with Library staff. We will help you understand the options that may be available.

ALREADY HAVE A LIBRARY CARD?

Massachusetts residents who already have a card from another MVLC member library may use that card at Lawrence Public Library. The Library also provides information about registering cards from other Massachusetts library networks (NOBLE, Minuteman, Metro Boston, Clams, Old Colony, or CW/MARS) .

NEED DIGITAL ACCESS?

Access eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, streaming content, databases, and other online resources from wherever you are.

MVLC eCARD
The Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) eCard provides immediate access to digital resources for eligible Massachusetts residents who do not already have an MVLC library card.

Use your eCard to explore: eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, Streaming Content, and other digital resources. The MVLC eCard is for digital access only. It does not replace a physical library card for borrowing print materials, DVDs, museum passes, or other physical items.

BPL eCARD
Expand your digital options with a Boston Public Library (BPL) eCard and access BPL’s extensive collection of online resources. You may be eligible if you:

  • Live in Massachusetts

  • Work in Massachusetts

  • Own property in Massachusetts

  • Temporarily live in Massachusetts while attending school

​​​The BPL eCard provides digital access only. It cannot be used to borrow print books, CDs, DVDs, museum passes, or other physical materials. To borrow physical materials from Boston Public Library, you must obtain a physical BPL card in person at a BPL branch.

AGENCY CARDS
Library Access for Organizations and the People They Serve. Lawrence Public Library offers Agency Cards to organizations that want to provide their residents or clients with greater access to Library materials.

The organization assumes responsibility for materials borrowed with the Agency Card and works with its staff, residents, or clients to ensure that items are returned. Agency Cards may be issued to:

  • An organization as a whole; and/or

  • An individual resident or client, at the organization’s discretion.

​The Library keeps Agency Cards on file. Organizations can manage access by providing a list of staff members, residents, or clients who are authorized to use the card. Interested in an Agency Card? Visit the Circulation Desk at the Main Library to learn more and arrange for an Agency Card.

RENEW YOUR LIBRARY CARD

Click HERE to renew your library card online using your library card number and PIN. If you have moved or legally changed your name, please contact our Circulation Desk for assistance, as your card cannot be renewed online.

  • Adult (18+ years old): Picture ID* with a current Lawrence address.     

  • Teen (7th-12th Grade): Picture ID* with a current Lawrence address OR proof of Lawrence school enrollment.

  • Kid (6th Grade and under): Parent/Guardian must provide a picture ID* with a current Lawrence address. 

  • Out of network/state Lawrence teacher: Provide a picture ID* and proof of employment in the City of Lawrence.

 *If ID does not have current address, provide proof of address (i.e. a bill). Please speak with a Library staff member if you cannot provide the requested documents.

Library Card Guidelines and General Information
  • Your PIN for accessing the Lawrence Public Library catalog and online resources is the last four digits of your library card number or the last four digits of your phone number. You may change this online to a pin of your choice.

  • Patrons are notified (by email or in person) to renew their library card before the expiration date. 

  • Patrons are notified via phone, text and/or email for any holds and overdue items.

  • Patron (or parent/guardian of the child) is responsible for all materials checked out on the card. 

  • Patron is responsible for notifying the Library if contact information changes.

  • Patron is responsible for notifying the Library if the card is lost. A free replacement card may be requested at the Circulation Desk.

  • Local-use-only: May check out materials and have access to the online resources. However, the card may not be used at other Libraries.

I agree to the following: I will be responsible for all materials checked out on this card, I will follow the regulations of the Lawrence Public Library. I will notify the library if my address changes or if my card is lost.

​Failure to return overdue library materials; failure to report lost library materials; destroying or damaging library materials; or failure to reimburse for such lost materials or damages is a violation of M.G.L. Chapter 61, Acts of 1990, M.G.L. Chapter 266, Sections 99 and 100 and is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000.
